Since
its birth in 1984, the Kidney Service Unit has grown
not only in size and
number of patients but also in services. It spearheaded
the first Kidney Transplant
here in Cebu. Consultations of potential donors and
recipients are being done in
the unit by the transplant coordinating team. It is
likewise acknowledged as a
pioneer of Vascular Studies (the Medasonics is the
first outside Metro Manila) and
Kidney Transplant (it had performed 21 kidney transplants).
It has an integrated
and streamlined system that addresses the concerns
of Renal Patients for quality
and cost-effective services. it adopts a personalized
approach to care with a one
nurse - one patient ratio and a 24-hour on call service
for emergency cases. The
unit has dedicated machines for Hepatitis B- and Hepatitis
B+ patients. A
continuing education program for Resident Physicians
and Nurses is being carried
out regularly as well as active participation of its
patients is encouraged through the
creation of the Renal Patient’s Association.
The Kidney Service has been given
full accreditation by the Philippine Society of Nephrology
for its fellowship training. |
